Growing up in western Pennsylvania I lived in North Huntingdon Township and attended school at Norwin. I completed my student teaching experience at North Allegheny and then moved to Bethesda Maryland where I have taught Health and Physical Education in Montgomery County Public Schools for the past 9 years. Montgomery County Public Schools is the largest school district in Maryland and the 17th largest school district in the country. It is a very diverse district with 202 schools that educate 156,447 students that come from over 157 countries and speak 138 different languages. It is a very accomplished district with distinctions including: 14 MCPS high schools made the U.S. News & World Report 2015 list of Best High Schools. Five high schools made the list of America’s Best High Schools, published by Newsweek. MCPS has one of the highest graduation rates among the nation’s largest school districts, according to an Education Week report. Because of the size and the opportunities afforded by this school district teaching at multiple schools are encouraged and a very common practice.
