​​Wellness Event Planner

​Throughout my teaching career I have organized school wide events to promote a healthy lifestyle for my students, colleagues, and community.  Although I am only highlighting wellness events I have also coordinated other school events that promoted cultural diversity.

Mile of Champions

Coordinated a school wide fitness competition that motivated students to improve their health throughout the year  and the competition cumulated in a school wide fitness assembly that received media coverage from the Washington Post.  Over a thousand people attended the event.  
Highlights 
  • 120 qualifying student participated in the event. 
  • The student body made posters, decorated lockers, and delivered announcements over the loud speaker to support the runners leading up to the event. 
  • I incorporated the english, music, art, health and physical education departments into this event. 
  • I received support from local businesses that sponsored this event. 
  • The local high school brought its track coaches and captains to encourage our runners through a dynamic warm-up.  
  • Donations included: Participant T-shirts, healthy breakfast foods and snacks, beverages, a catered lunch, and 20 gift certificates from local health consciences businesses for raffle give-aways that occurred throughout the event.
  • The crowd was treated with music, raffle prizes, and a closing ceremony. 
  • The event was featured in the Washington Post Newspaper and the Montgomery County Physical Education Newsletter.

The health fair club created this poster to promote the upcoming health fair.

Health Fair 

Organized a student-run health fair that educated members of the Kensington community on living a balanced and healthful lifestyle.  Over 400 people attended and received free educational material, healthy food, recipes, prizes, and enjoyed interactive educational booths and live music.
Highlights 
  • I wrote and received a grant to produce this health fair. 
  • I created a year long club for students interested in the production of a community health fair. 
  • 42 students participated in a health fair club where I involved them in every aspect of a 6 month planning process of putting together a successful health fair. 
  • In the club they received exposure to conducting research, poster making, and public speaking.
  • They created interactive booths that educated and entertained participants. 
  • Free healthy food including smoothies and cooking demonstrations with recipes were given.
  • 15 Professional Organizations attended this fair and topics included: Stress Management, Mental Disorders, Nutrition, Fitness Clubs Promotions, first aid, and health screenings. 
  • I incorporated the art, health and physical education departments into this event.

Announcing the winners and thanking my sponsors for the Triathlon.

Triathlon 

As the interim director of Sports and Family at the Butler YMCA in Pennsylvania I organized a Triathlon for community members.  Their were 296 participants and over 500 spectators that attended the event.  The event was covered by the local media. 
Highlights 
  • Acquired sponsorship from 22 local businesses.
  • ​Created and maintained a budget.
  • Advertised the event through flyers, bulletin boards, and a local radio station. 
  • Created the T-shirt design for participants. 
  • Organized participant registration.
  • Edited music to create a family appropriate playlist to motivate participants.
  • Set up the entire course with signs to ensure participants safety and guide them through the course.
  • Surveyed the entire course prior to participants arriving to ensure course safety. 
  • Delegated a team of volunteers to administer specific tasks at stations throughout the course.
  • Supervised participant race chips and administered race directions. 
  • Set up tables with healthy snacks and beverages. 
  • Conducted the award ceremony at the conclusion of the event. 
  • Wrote and personally delivered  thank you letters to all of the businesses and volunteers that contributed to the Triathlon.
